What is Intellectual Property?

Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images and designs that can be protected. Simply put, intellectual property can be divided into two categories: Industrial Property, which can include inventions (patents), trademarks, industrial designs; and Copyright, which can include literary and artistic works.
