Intellectual Property Advisory Committee Overview The Intellectual Property Advisory Committee (IPA) operates as an advisory body to contribute expert and independent views on intellectual property issues. The committee meets regularly to evaluate: disclosed technology, its patentability, economic value and risk factors that could affect its commercialization. The committee is comprised of four standing members:
Ad hoc members are determined by area of expertise and invited to attend committee meetings to support the evaluation process of disclosures. FIU faculty and/or staff, with technical or economic knowledge in the field of technology, are asked to review, assess or evaluate the technical and commercial potential of the disclosed technology. Inventors are asked to present their technology before the advisory committee. Included in the presentation are the following discussion points:
An industry-developed guide sheet facilitates the committee’s evaluation of the complete disclosure. |
